Del Norte and Hammond Parks Construction Almost Done!

The Del Norte Pier Playground, Dog Park and restrooms, located adjacent to the Water-front Trail at the foot of Del Norte Street, are almost ready to open.

The new playground will be inclusive so youth of all abilities can participate in the fun. This will be the second dog park developed in Eureka and will provide another welcome play area for four-legged friends. The new Parks-Waterfront Ranger will patrol the area as it is along the Waterfront Trail. This park expansion is made possible thanks to a $125,000 grant from the Housing Related Parks Program administered by the California Department of Housing and Community Development, as well as a portion of a $250,000 one-time allocation from Eureka City Council for both the Del Norte and Hammond Parks projects. The shark and porpoise in the playground area are part of the $90,000 Creative California Communities grant received by the City. This grant will incorporate eight artistic benches, created by local artists, to the Waterfront Trail. Grant parameters require all funding received is solely dedicated to this project and location. If you are interested in supporting this great new community asset, please contact Miles Slattery, Community Services Director, at (707) 441-4184 or mslattery@ci.eureka.ca.gov.
