Sequoia Park Trail Closed for Paving

The trail at Sequoia Park ranging from the historic gate, following the rear end of the Sequoia Park Zoo ending at Glatt St, will be closed for paving starting today and continuing through May 27.

We ask that you please respect the signs and closure areas during this time.

Free Compost For Food Independence

It’s Spring and that means it’s time to declare your food independence by kicking off your garden! Join the City of Eureka, Recology, and Cooperation Humboldt as we join forces to ensure everyone has access to nutritional food and is empowered to grow their own!

We are offering free compost to help kick start your veggie garden this Spring. All you need to do is show up with a shovel and container and take what you need. Compost is a nutritional amendment that helps supplement your soil so plants have all the nutrients they need to grow yummy fruits and vegetables.

Temporary Two-Day Closure Of Green Waste Drop Off

A temporary two-day closure of green waste drop-off in order for facility repairs to take place at HWMA’s Hawthorne Street Transfer Station will begin May 21.

Green waste drop-off will be unavailable at HWMA’s Hawthorne Street Transfer Station starting Friday, May 21st through Saturday, May 22nd. During this two-day closure, HWMA will perform the necessary repair and retrofit at our green waste drop-off area.

In the interim, HWMA encourages customers to direct haul to Wes Green Company located at 6360 West End Road, Arcata during this two-day closure period.  

HWMA apologizes for the inconvenience this causes our customers and expect to resume regular green waste drop-off services on Sunday, May 23rd.

Summer Camps Returning

Summer Day Camps return June 14 through August 6!

They will include Camp Cooper (application & referral base only) and Camp Muni. 

All Covid protocols are in place; temperature checks, masks, distancing. Free lunch will be provided for both camps by Eureka City Schools.

Both camps will operate Monday-Friday 8:00am-5pm and are for youth ages 5-12 years. Camp Muni will be $120/week for Eureka residents and $130/week for non-residents.

Youth Basketball Conditioning Class Delayed Start

UPDATE: The City of Eureka’s Community Service Department is postponing their Youth Basketball Conditioning Class starting April 26th to Monday, May 3rd due to inclement weather. Spots are currently open for registration.  The class is for youth ages 11-17 and designed for student athletes who want to stay in top shape but can’t compete due to Covid-19. (See the original post here.)

There will be an experienced facilitator leading each class. 

Registration: $25/week.  Class runs from Monday-Thursday from 5:00-6:00pm at Hammond Park Basketball Court.

Let’s Beautify Eureka – West Wabash Neighborhood

We are so fortunate to live in an area as beautiful as Eureka. Let’s work together to make it really stand out.

Join your friends and help beautify our neighborhoods by picking up litter, planting, weeding, and fixing up the sidewalk street trees.

  • This event will focus on the West Wabash neighborhood.
  • Meet at Express Personnel at 14 West Wabash Street
  • All supplies are provided, but we ask that you wear a mask and bring any gardening gloves or tools.
