Adorni Offers Fitness Reimagined

This article is written by Bess Ogden, one of the instructors for the Adorni Center.

Seems like the older we get the harder we fall, and the harder we try to avoid it! When was the last time you fell? Was it while you were doing something new, something fun, or not so much? Did you hurt yourself?

Oh my goodness, the wonderful falls I’ve had as an older adult:

  • That time I decided to be a roller derby girl
  • Snowshoeing last winter up at Horse Mountain
  • When I was WAY into Spartan obstacle races and learned (again) how to swing on monkey bars
  • Practicing Dancer and Crow pose during yoga 

See, that’s what I LOVE about functional fitness. Sometimes we’re going to fall down. The question is, can you get UP? If you hurt yourself falling, can you HEAL up?? Functional fitness focuses on practical movement and daily life activities. Be strong. Be nimble. Be flexible. Keep a wide range of motion in all your joints. Fall and then spring up to do it again!

The Adorni Center truly does offer “fitness reimagined”.

Adorni Center Fitness Modifications

The Adorni Center is open for fitness activities with the following modifications:

  • A mask or face covering must be worn at all times in the facility;
  • Entry to the facility will be limited to the entrance on the Bay Side;
  • Fitness classes and equipment may be limited to accommodate social distancing;
  • Locker rooms and Personal Training will not be available at this time;
  • Drop-in basketball and pickleball will not be available at this time;
  • Updated facility hours will be Monday – Friday 8am – 7pm, Saturday 9am – 5pm and closed on Sundays.

This program emphasizes practical strategies to manage falls.

YOU WILL LEARN TO:

  • Set goals for increasing activity
  • Make changes to reduce fall risks at home
  • Exercise to increase strength and balance.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

  • Anyone concerned about falls
  • Anyone interested in improving balance, flexibility and strength
  • Anyone who has fallen in the past
  • Anyone who has restricted activities because of falling concerns.

Silver Sneakers Tai Chi Class Starts March 1

A modified Tai Chi Class, called “EnerChi,” is starting at the Adorni on March 1.

EnerChi is comprised of easy-to-learn, modified Tai Chi forms aimed at improving well-being.

Low-impact movements are practiced in a slow, flowing sequence to progress strength, balance and focus. Chair support is offered to facilitate standing stability and seated exercise options.

New “SAIL” Fitness Class for Older Adults Being Added in March

Starting in March 2020, we are adding a special on-going fitness class for folks 65 and older, called “SAIL.”

Silver Sneakers Classic Changing Time in March

Just because you’re “of a certain age” doesn’t mean you don’t want to stay active and fit, right?

Our Silver Sneakers Classic Class is changing it’s time slot to 9AM from 10AM as of March, 2020.

Designed to increase muscle strength, range of movement and improve activities for daily living. A chair is used for seated exercises and standing support and class can be modified depending on fitness levels.
