This update reflects the fact that Camp Cooper registration is now open through Friday, May 26.

Applications for this free day camp are being accepted now through May 26.

FREE!For over 25 years, the City of Eureka has been proud to provide a free summer day camp for the community members in need. Now, thanks to a grant from California State Parks, Eureka Parks & Recreation has been able to expand its Camp Cooper program into an 8-hour environmental education day camp.

This camp is designed to be a resource for low-income and disadvantaged youth and their families.

Due to limited spaces in this program,  Eureka Parks & Recreation has created a competitive application process for families based on level of need that will secure them a spot for the entire summer.

Details:

  • Camp runs June 19 through August 11
  • Monday through Friday 8AM to 5PM
  • Ages 5-12
  • Deadline to pick up application is May 26

Details for qualifications and criteria each can be found in the application which can be picked up at the Adorni Center (1011 Waterfront Drive in Eureka) and will be accepted through April 30th, 2017. Families will be made aware if they have been chosen to have a secured spot in Camp Cooper by Friday, May 12th

Pathway to Payday: FREE JOB WORKSHOP Series returns

Have you been on the job hunt but are finding that you aren’t getting a call back for an interview?

Eureka Parks & Recreation and the Betty Chinn Day Center are committed to empowering the members of our community and providing them with the tools to set them up for success.  Which is why they have partnered to create Pathway to Payday—a unique and innovative workshop that will only teach you how to FREE!best sell yourself on your application & how to best be prepared for an interview.

What makes this workshop unique, is that participants will get the opportunity to immediately put these skills to the test with on-site interviews with real employers looking to hire.

Representatives from the following organizations will be there:

  • St. Joseph Hospital
  • Farmers Insurance
  • Rita’s Margaritas & Mexican Grill
  • Sun Valley, Pierson’s
  • Express Employment Professionals
  • Wing Inflatables
  • North Coast Cleaning Services
  • Eureka Parks & Recreation

Workshop participants are not guaranteed a job, but they are guaranteed this great opportunity. Last year, nearly 90% of workshop attendees left with a job.

There will be free on-site childcare available, lunch, as well as interview attire if needed.

This free workshop series will take place over four sessions at the Betty Kwan Chinn Day Center at 133 7th Street in Eureka. Sessions take place Wednesday, April 26th, Friday April 28th, and Wednesday May 3rd, and Friday May 5th from 10am-1pm.

Roller Skating at the Eureka Muni Returns!

Roller Skating is back!

Come to the Eureka Muni on Fri., April 21st and Sat., April 22nd for the return of roller skating!  The fun starts at 6pm and ends at 8:30pm.  Youth ages 17 and under are $4.50 and adults are $5.25.

Book Drive for All Ages Going on Now

Eureka Parks & Recreation is collecting books for youth and adults of ALL ages for the launch of the ABC Traveling Library.

The ABC (Accessible Books From CAPE) Traveling Library is a new program through the Community Access Project for Eureka that brings books DIRECTLY to adults, children and families in need who experience barriers to be able to visit a traditional library.

To get this program launched, Parks & Recreation is looking for new or gently used books of any genre for all ages.
