FREE!FREE Family Event for kids of all ages & their families.

This is a Wee Readers special event featuring: Paul Woodland—known as the “Mad River Raconteur.”

Paul honed is storytelling skills while working as a Park Ranger telling tales on the radio (KHSU) and through hundreds of public performances in the classrooms, parks and festivals.  Paul is well known for his weekly radio storytelling program, “The Whippy Dip Radio Show” on KHSU.

Wee Readers Family Literacy Program at Betty Chinn Day Center

Did you know that reading to young children increases brain development at an early age and better prepares them for future learning?

Children who are read to at an early age are also more likely to be able to begin to read on time.  Reading to infants allows for a social and emotional development that is vital for a happy and healthy family to flourish.

FREE!Parks & Recreation has partnered with the Betty Kwan Chinn Day Center to offer a Family Literacy Program for 0-5 year olds & their families.  This program is free and will includes a featured book of the week read out loud to the group, along with accompanying songs & activities.

City of Eureka’s Fence Banner Advertising Policy

The City of Eureka Parks & Recreation Department has determined that there is an opportunity and a desire for advertisers to purchase banner space to promote their events and businesses.

The purpose of this policy is to create clear guidelines for the Department and the public to understand the possibilities and limitations of the advertising opportunities offered on City fences.

Feb 25th Class 1: Applying for the job you want

Learn how to best represent your work history & skill set, find out how to avoid common application mistakes, & discover what today’s employers are looking for—all in the process of applying for a real job!

March 3rd Class 2: Mock Interviews

Gain valuable interview skills by engaging in an interactive mock interview that will allow you to test your interview skills & receive valuable feedback that will prepare you for a real interview the following week!

March 10th Class 3: Real Interviews

Take the tools you’ve learned in the previous two weeks & put them into action with real interviews with real employers for real jobs. Interview attire provided by Betty Chinn Day Center if needed. Take a deep breath & put your best foot forward, participants are not guaranteed a job, but are guaranteed this opportunity…so make the most of it!

March 17th Class 4: The Next Step

In the final workshop, participants will receive feedback from their job interviews. Participants will leave this final workshop with tools to set them up for success in a new job, or feedback on why they did not receive the job and tools for what they can do next time to land the job.

FREE: Reading and Storytelling Group for Very Young Children and Their Families

If you have a child up to five years old, this free family event is for you!

Come to the Wee Reader’s Group Family Literacy Program

FREE!Join us the 1st, 2nd & 3rd Tuesday of each month at the Betty Kwan Chinn Day Center (at 133 Seventh Street in Eureka) for a fun & educational experience where children and adults are given the opportunity to explore books and story-telling together in a supportive environment which caters to all reading levels.

The event goes from 11AM to 12:30 PM. January’s theme is WINTER.  Tuesday, January 19’s theme will be “RAINY DAYS!”
