The City of Eureka is asking residents to help meet a dire community need during the COVID-19 outbreak: reusable masks or face coverings experiencing homelessness.
The use of simple cloth face coverings can slow the spread of the virus and help people who may have the virus and do not know it from transmitting it to others. Universal face coverings protect us all and have become mandatory in Humboldt County. Please help ensure that our most vulnerable community members can comply and contribute to the beneficial impact of universal face coverings.
We are in this together and your support will help UPLIFT our community. Donated face masks or face coverings will be supplied to St. Vincent de Paul, The Eureka Rescue Mission, and The Betty Kwan Chinn Day Center for distribution.
How Can You Help?
Face Coverings: The City of Eureka welcomes any of the following face-covering donations:
- Homemade sewn mask (Click here to view a template from CDC.)
- Homemade no-sew masks (Click here to view templates from CDC.)
- Bandanas
- Elastic Hair Ties
- Please no staples, paper clips or safety pins. (These items can cause issues for staff and equipment when laundered. and potential injury or discomfort to the mask wearer.)
The donation box is located outside of the main entrance of Eureka City Hall (531 K Street) Monday through Thursdays from 10am-Noon and 1pm-4pm. (We are not accepting donations on Fridays.) (updated)Please wear a face covering when dropping off your donation.
Financial Support: Many people in the community have asked about making monetary gifts. UPLIFT Eureka is gratefully accepting donations. Kindly click on the Make a Donation button below.
How Will This Program Work?
This program will be operated by a partnership between UPLIFT Eureka, Eureka Police Department, and the Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services. Working with our community partners at St. Vincent de Paul, The Eureka Rescue Mission, and The Betty Kwan Chinn Day Center, masks will be distributed daily to guests at no cost. Staff will clean and sanitize masks per Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines to ensure every person has access to a clean mask every day.
Thank you!
Thank you to everyone who has contributed so far to make this program possible. The City of Eureka continues to be inspired by the outpouring of support from our community, including the many masks that have already been donated by our local retailers, Bubbles and Mend Arcata.
While we are socially distant, we can still come together. For more information please call Katelyn Merrell at 707-497-8719.
